Building strong readers, one story at a time.
Designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade students, our Summer Virtual Reading Program provides small-group instruction focused on phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension. The program helps strengthen foundational literacy skills while keeping reading joyful and engaging during the summer, so every child returns to school more confident and connected to books.
"Literacy is more than reading and writing."
LitiArts partners with the Seattle Public Library to offer Book Circles for BIPOC girls and nonbinary youth in Seattle’s Rainier Beach community. This initiative fosters self-expression, builds community connections, and supports personal growth through the arts and literacy.
Our Book Circles emphasize relationship building and are guided by the interests of girls and nonbinary youth. Their lived experiences are at the heart of our curricula, which shape their book selections and artwork projects.

Multiple Literacies
We use a range of literacies and modalities that invite students to engage with literacy beyond word recognition and phonics instruction – digital literacies, visual literacies, music literacies. These modalities increase students’ access to literacy-learning in meaningful and engaging ways.
Creativity & Self-Expression
We couple our diverse literacy modalities with the arts, such as creative writing, theater, painting, and other art forms. By doing so, students are invited to take risks, foster their creativity, and engage in literacy-learning that allows them to express their identities (e.g., racial, ethnic, linguistic, gender, etc.).
Identity & Self-Belonging
Because we broaden what counts as ‘literacy’, we create equitable literacy experiences that all students can access and enjoy.
“
The art part helps me feel more confident and comfortable with myself. They give me the tools to express who I am and feel proud of it. My brain is getting bigger from reading!

“
The book circles help me understand my identity better by giving me more details and helping me connect more deeply with the story. They make the experience of reading more meaningful and relevant to who I am.
